Throughout the course of this past week, I have been confronted with a few questions that are often top of mind, but were quite present that I think we all have. What is fulfillment? Do you choose fulfillment in every moment presented to you? Are you brave enough to choose a life of fulfillment? These are so many of the questions I think about often – it is a fundamental issue each of us face every single moment . . . or not. It is a bit of a paradox, wouldn’t you say? It isn’t a destination – it is more of a state of being or an experience that points you in the right direction. You may do things to bring more fulfillment and it isn’t about the “doing”. If we are not living with purpose, what are we doing? Fulfillment isn’t about having – it is about longing. And funny enough – it isn’t a destination. It is a journey – one we embark on each and every day. We have the gift to be present in each and every moment of our life, big or small, and embody the experiences we are given.
There is magic and warm fuzzies in the space of fulfillment – and if you aren’t able to step in to it, you won’t be able to get there. Shine the light on those moments and see, feel beyond what is in front of you – close your eyes, take in the smells if any, embody your surroundings. Be curious in what you feel – where are you feeling the moment? What are you sensing and where? Be present. It may be in moments watching your daughter dance or perhaps giving yourself the gift of a workout or receiving a phone call from a loved one unexpectedly. The connection you make and the feelings you have align with core values within you like connection, family, self-care, courage, balance, etc. What are some of the core values that come to mind for you?
When we make choices and live a life according to our values it is AMAZING to see what shift happens within us. I don’t know about you, but I feel alive when my values are being honored. And when they are not, I feel dissonance. This does not mean you have to be happy all of the time – goodness no! I sure don’t! That inner dialogue happens when I am making the choice between the “easy” answer and the one that aligns with my values. Living a life in alignment with our values means choosing to live your life according to you – not society, our parents, our spouses, our jobs, etc. Many of us make choices based on what is easiest or what others want. We settle more than we choose. We bury what we truly want, what brings us happiness, what brings us fulfillment. Why do we forget what we know we truly want and are unable to voice it?
Coaching is about moving you out of your comfort zone of “easy” and to bring about change which may at times be uncomfortable. What would it be like to live your life with greater fulfillment in every day and as many moments as possible? What does your inner self truly want, what makes his/her happy, what brings you true fulfillment?
